IN
EACH OF OUR LIVES, IF WE ARE FORTUNATE, WE HAVE THE CHANCE TO WORK
WITH PEOPLE WHO STAND OUT FROM THE REST, AND WHO INSPIRE US WITH
THEIR QUALITIES. WE ARE BETTER PERSONS FOR HAVING KNOWN THEM, AND
JUST MAYBE WE ARE ABLE TO MAKE A CONTRIBUTION OF OUR OWN BECAUSE
OF THEIR EXAMPLE. THESE ARE SUCH MEN. I WAS LUCKY TO KNOW
THEM, WORK WITH THEM, AND CALL THEM "FRIEND". |

TROOPER
CARL P. MOLLER

KILLED IN
THE LINE OF DUTY
FEB. 13, 1976
|
 |
Carl
was my mentor. He was the guy that took me under his wing
when I was an "FNG", and prone to making the dumb
mistakes that new guys make. He took care of me, taught me a ton of valuable lessons, and made
such an impression on me that, more thirty years
after his death, I still feel his influence.
Carl was a U.S. Army Viet Nam veteran who distinguished himself in that conflict, but never bragged about it. As a cop, he was
everything a cop should be and a superb role model. He could be tough as nails
when necessary and never backed down from a scrap, but it was not uncommon for him to spend his
days off trying to help and improve the lives of people he had to
arrest on the job.
He was trying to assist another motorist who had broken
down when he was struck and killed by an intoxicated truck
driver who continued on without stopping, but was quickly
apprehended.

TROOPER
ALAN MECKEL

DIED
FEBRUARY 1997
|
 |
Al
was an outstanding individual that was liked by everyone.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force, and originally
worked as an officer at one of the state's hospitals,
where he injured his back. This injury caused him
tremendous pain and complications throughout the rest of
his life, but he was never one to whine.
Al and I worked together at Troop K, in Colchester, where
I came to know him as a fearless, but compassionate
person. He was always cheerful, and was always there for
those he worked with. He later worked at Troop F, in
Westbrook, where he served many years as Resident Trooper
in the town of Old Lyme.
Al was also involved in the "Big Brothers"
program, where he made a commitment which he honored for
many years, making a difference in another life.
He was a good friend, he was taken too early, and his is
the kind of loss that makes us ask, "Why him?"
